A proprietary pre-digestion process breaks long lignin chain into simple hydrocarbons.

Specialised consortium of bacteria belonging to 16 diverse groups work on multiple pathways to digest the substrate. This generates 15-20% higher yield of 97% methane.

Specialised bio-rings are used for the incubation of bacteria which prevents washout, thereby removing the need for periodic top-up of microbes.

The proprietary CO2 re-breather process is adopted (based on specific requirements) to generate a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen which is fed back in the reactor under pressure to catalyse the biogas generation process. This also eliminates the need for mechanical stirring as the gas continuously agitates the biomass.

Post digestion, the substrate is subjected to NPK fixation process through specific microbes which converts it into a very rich plant nutrient.

  • The biomass generated from coffee processing is one of the most difficult substrates to generate biogas from, due to its high lignin content.
  • Hence, the coffee biomass and wastewater have a huge negative impact on the forest ecosystem and animal health.
  • The MIBR technology has successfully tackled this problem at Bombay Burmah at Coorg to produce 97% biomethane in a 120 TPD plant which has been running for over 8 years.
  • The biogas produced has been primarily used for generation of electricity and drying of coffee during the processing season. This has had a tremendous positive impact on the environment.
  • The substrate is used as a NPK bio-plant nutrient and the digestate as a pest repellent for berry borers and stem borers.
  • Water hyacinth is an invasive weed which disrupts the ecological balance of water bodies by forming a dense cover over its surface thereby reducing the dissolved oxygen and light available for aquatic life.
  • It interferes in irrigation and drainage systems, and may also threaten ocean ecology in the future if it succeeds in acclimatising to seawater.
  • Organization de Scalene had recognised this threat nearly two decades back and set-up a 10 TPD plant to generate biomethane from water hyacinth 17 years back. As a result, the Seegahalli Lake has been completely cleared and many other lakes have been rejuvenated in Bengaluru.
  • This is arguably the only plant running with water hyacinth as a substrate for so long in the world.
